Egg Bank Vs. Egg Donation Cycle

Egg Bank Vs. Egg Donation Cycle

Surrogacy Costs

What is the difference between the two?

When you use Egg Donation to create your family you have the option between two different types of Egg Donation. The first would be to have an Egg Donor do a fresh Egg Donation cycle, synced up with the Mother (or Surrogate’s) cycle, to be implanted shortly after. The second type of Egg Donation would be to utilize frozen eggs from an Egg Bank. These eggs would have been been frozen from a previous donation using a process called “vitrification”. These eggs would need to be thawed before they can be inseminated with the sperm to create an embryo.

Egg Donation Cycle

Also know as a fresh Egg Donation cycle or retrieval. With this method, no eggs have been donated until after the intended parents have chosen their ideal egg donor and have gone through the legal documents and medical screenings of the egg donor. The egg donor will receive medications to stimulate her production of eggs at a certain time to line up with the retrieval.

Egg Bank

Also know as a frozen Egg Bank. By utilizing a frozen egg bank, parents do not need to wait for eggs to be donated. They have already been previously retrieved using IVF and were “frozen” using a process called vitrification. Parents would tend to get less eggs using this method and more eggs can potentially be lost from the thawing process.

What about the cost?

Between the two, a fresh egg donation cycle will be more costly. This will be due to the retrieval needing to take place and for the medications involved for both the Donor and the intended mother.

Which one is better?

That is going to come down to being a judgement call that intended parents will have to make based on their finances and risk factors.

Can you tell me about cost per live birth?

Skeptical on keeping this part on. I would have to rely on the data from the CDC. I will have to find a more recent version of the data and come up with a way to say it without showing the numbers.

What about the reporting?

Maybe there is a creative way for me to work in the fact that egg banks do not have to report their numbers to the CDC but that IVF Clinics do. ???

Why we only do fresh Egg Donation Cycles:

Here at Conceptual Options, our goal is to keep our clients potential costs to a minimum while also decreasing their cost per live birth to remain in a place that has them comfortable throughout the Egg Donation Process. The rates are better and we can provide a better outcome to our clients by keeping with only utilizing fresh Egg Donation cycles. What are the challenges with fresh cycles – the synchronization of cycles.

Challenges of Fresh Egg Donation Cycles

The synchronization of cycles – this is not as big of a deal as some people would make it out to be.

Note: Egg Donation Banks are not required by law to disclose their successful live birth numbers. Only Clinics are required to do so.
