What is Egg Donation?
Egg donation is the process of donating one woman’s genetic material (egg/oocyte) to another person for the purpose of creating their child via in vitro fertilization (IVF). Any resulting embryo that is created by the insemination of this egg by sperm from the intended father or a sperm donor is then transferred into the uterus of the intended mother or a surrogate mother for a resulting pregnancy.

Egg donation is the process of donating one woman’s genetic material (egg/oocyte) to another person to create their child via in vitro fertilization (IVF). Any resulting embryo created by the insemination of this egg by sperm from the intended father or a sperm donor is then transferred into the uterus of the intended mother or a surrogate mother for a resulting pregnancy.
A surrogate can be implanted with an embryo created in several different ways via IVF. One such way is using the intended father’s sperm and the intended mother’s eggs, while other options are using the intended father’s sperm and a donor egg, the intended mother’s eggs, sperm donor, or donor sperm donor eggs. Becoming an egg donor for a family wanting to create a child of their own is an exciting and rewarding journey for everyone involved. Our staff’s goal is to make your egg donation journey as enjoyable and fulfilling as possible, whether you are an intended parent or egg donor.
In fact, Conceptual Options’ egg donor program is very selective – on average, we accept only about 1-3% of applicants into our donor program. A tentative donor egg match is made when a recipient decides to move forward with a specific donor. Our client intake team will contact the egg donor to confirm her availability. If the egg donor is available for the intended parents’ desired time frame and passes an FDA-required round of testing, an official match is made. Some donors are selected and matched to a recipient very quickly after applying; others may take months or years before they are selected; still, others may never be selected.
For Egg Donors:
What is the Egg Donation Procedure like?
The egg retrieval process is a generally painless procedure, which takes about 20-30 minutes with about an hour of recovery at the clinic. You will have intravenous sedation for comfort. The procedure to retrieve the eggs is called an oocyte (egg) aspiration, performed with an ultrasound-guided needle passing from the upper vagina into each ovary. After a brief recovery from the anesthesia, you will be able to go home and return to your normal daily routine.
Can I complete the application on my phone?
Yes, you can fill out your Egg Donor Application from the comfort of your home! Completing the Egg Donor Application may seem time-consuming, but this is an important process for both you and any prospective intended parents because it provides Conceptual Options’ Donor Intake Team the ability to determine if you qualify to become one of Conceptual Options’ Egg Donors. How do I find an Egg Donor?
That’s where our comprehensive Egg Donor Database comes in. Your journey as an intended parent begins with finding your ideal egg donor. What sets our egg donors apart from other agencies is that every potential donor goes through a screening process before being accepted into our database. The comprehensive screening process ensures the woman’s medical and mental health, has verified credentials and is excited to help you have a child of your own. We believe that quality far outweighs quantity when it comes to donors, and our process ensures our egg donor database is second to none in the world.
Does the Egg Donor’s Location matter?
No. With our comprehensive Egg Donor Database, you can find your perfect Donor that matches your criteria across the country. Spend as much time as you would like browsing the database. Our team will be here to help if you would like any guidance during your search. Once you find your perfect Donor, we will coordinate with your fertility clinic to make the entire Egg Donation process happen. By expanding your search to the entire country, you can prioritize other criteria and not have the Donor’s location hold you back.
Does this increase the Egg Donation Cost?
Yes, there will be some costs to think about when choosing an egg donor that is not located near your clinic. There will be travel expenses for the egg donor and a companion (if she chooses to have one), including travel, lodging, car rental, and per diem (if applicable). In general, there will be two separate trips that the egg donor will have to take. The first will be for her medical testing with your clinic of choice (some clinics will allow this to be done locally where the Donor lives, but each fertility clinic has its own preferences). The second time the donor will have to travel will be for the retrieval.
