As we told you in our last post, actress, Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell welcomed their first child, a daughter, just recently via surrogacy. While the couple never disclosed that they used a surrogate or that they were even pregnant until after she was born, the internet has gone wild about why she used a surrogate. Many are assuming that she used a surrogate because she didn’t want to interrupt her career, otherwise called “social surrogacy.” But could it be because of her weight, which affects ovulation? Or is it something else we aren’t entitled to know?
As for why Lily and her husband used a surrogate to have their baby girl, or even why a surrogate decides to be a surrogate, should not be part of the discussion for those outside of their arrangement. Many feminists and anti-surrogacy critics believe social surrogacy is an “unethical trend” that exploits women. Yet, as Lily’s husband responded on social media, no one needs to know the “why” no matter what anyone assumes.
